Meals for Mums - Ashley’s Volunteer Story
One cause particularly close to our hearts is supporting new parents during what can be both a joyful and challenging time.
Ashley, our Operations Manager, has been volunteering with Meals for Mums in Alexandra (Otago), helping provide nourishing, home-cooked meals to families who have recently welcomed a new baby.
After becoming a mum herself, Ashley understands firsthand how overwhelming the early weeks can be.
"Having a newborn is wonderful - but it can also be exhausting, emotional, and isolating. Sometimes even simple things like cooking a proper meal feel impossible. Knowing someone cares enough to help makes a huge difference.”
By preparing and delivering meals, Ashley helps ease the pressure on new parents so they can focus on rest, recovery, and bonding with their baby.
For many families, these meals are more than just food - they’re a gesture of kindness, reassurance, and community support at a time when it’s needed most.
Ashley said the experience has been incredibly rewarding:
“Supporting other mums during such a vulnerable time means a lot to me. I remember how much small acts of kindness meant when my daughter was born, and it feels special to pass that on.”
We’re proud of Ashley’s commitment to supporting local families in Alexandra and grateful to organisations like Meals for Mums that make such a positive impact.
